Graded A+: Pondicherry University gets top ranking from NAAC

Pondicherry University was recently reaccredited with an A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its fifth cycle of assessment (2019–2024).

This A+ rating is the highest rating secured by the University in its 40-year history, surpassing the A grades awarded in the previous two cycles (during 2006-2019).

This successful outcome places Pondicherry University among India’s top-performing Central Universities.

In NAAC’s assessment, the University earned a remarkable score of 3.87 out of 4 in the “Curricular Aspects” criterion, highlighting its progressive approach to curriculum design, academic flexibility, and responsiveness to learner and societal needs.

Equally notable is the University’s score of 3.56 out of 4 in the “Research, Innovations and Extension” criterion that reflects its strong research output, thriving innovation ecosystem, significant consultancy engagements, and vibrant collaborations.

Initiatives such as Green Audit, Gender Audit and Accessibility Audit concerning Environmental sustainability and stewardship, and Equity and Inclusion respectively, were much appreciated.

Looking ahead, the University has laid out an ambitious roadmap that includes expanding its Community College model to underserved regions, offering joint and dual degree programmes with international partners, and promoting technology-enabled online and distance learning, and achieving Net-Zero campus status by 2030 scaling up its environmental sustainability and stewardship initiatives.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the recent A+ accreditation as a renewed endorsement of excellence, Pondicherry University is set to embark on its next phase of growth with clarity and purpose to equip students for the emerging knowledge economy while contributing meaningfully to India’s aspirations in higher education, innovation, and sustainable development.
[11:14 PM, 6/11/2025] Radhika khanna Jio: 9th June: An MoU was signed with the Directorate of AYUSH, Puducherry on Monday in the Executive Council hall in the presence of Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P Prakash Babu.

This MOU will be coordinated by Dr. V. Thillai Sekar, Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, School of Life Sciences.

This MoU is one more endeavour to integrate the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) into research initiatives led by faculty and students of Pondicherry University.
