Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC), PU hosted a lecture on Women, AI, and Equity
Pondicherry University’s EMRC, celebrating 40 years of academic excellence, hosted an online lecture titled “Women, Artificial Intelligence and Equity” on March 06, 2026, at 10 a.m. The session, held at the DEMMC Auditorium, featured speaker Supriya Bhuwalka joining online.
The lecture was delivered by Supriya Bhuwalka, the founder of Coding and more, an all- woman EdTech social enterprise, to students from grades 2 to 12. During the interactive session, students raised questions on AI’s potential in grassroots journalism, participatory communication, disability-friendly AI, environmental concerns, and inclusivity for tribal women. Bhuwalka emphasized the need to bridge the gender gap in tech, highlighting that only 30% of AI professionals are women, with limited opportunities, social barriers, and a lack of representation contributing to the disparity.
Bhuwalka encouraged young girls to explore AI, and coding, stressing that they have immense potential. The session aimed to spark interest and inspire women to participate in AI’s growth. The lecture highlighted the importance of inclusivity in technology and encouraged educational institutions and organisations to promote equal opportunities for women in AI.
