Pondicherry University VC inaugrates the new Office of the Proctorial Board
May 27, 2025. In a key development within the university, Prof. Babu also inaugurated the Office of the Proctorial Board. During the event, he elaborated on the background and vision behind the formation of the Board. The regulations guiding the Board have been carefully framed, drawing from best practices followed at other central universities.
“The primary objective is to maintain discipline on campus and ensure a code of conduct among students,” he said. Prof. Y. Venkata Rao, Dean of Students’ Welfare, added that the formation of the Proctorial Board is in accordance with the Pondicherry University Act, 1985. He noted that with the university expanding and the student population growing, it was essential to have a formal mechanism to address disciplinary matters while upholding the principles of natural justice.
Importantly, the composition of the Board reflects inclusivity, with representation from minorities, women, and the North-East Region, ensuring fairness and diversity in its functioning.
