A LIFELINE OF HOPE: PONDICHERRY UNIVERSITY’S BLOOD DONATION CAMP IS SET TO SAVE LIVES
A blood donation camp was organised at Pondicherry University on Tuesday, 25th March 2025. The National Service Scheme, Office of the Dean of Students Welfare, IQAC Cell, and Ananda Rangapillai Library organized the camp in association with JIPMER Blood Bank NIFAA and PUVI Foundation Trust, Puducherry.
The blood donation camp was inaugurated by Professor Phanithi Prakash Babu, honorable Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University. The program started with a welcome speech delivered by Professor Yella Venkatta Rao, Dean of Students Welfare, followed by a felicitation address by Professor K. Tharanikkarasu, Director of Studies, Dr. M. Vijayakumar, University Librarian, and S. Krishnakumar, President, PUVI Foundation Trust & NIFAA, who extended words of encouragement to everyone and congratulated every donor.
“We are deeply honored by the willingness to come forward and donate, with special applause to NSS volunteers who have been working as helping hands throughout the camp,” said Professor C. Sadheesh Kumar, program coordinator, NSS, Pondicherry University.
The event held within the university was a success, witnessing an influx of NSS volunteers, students, and staff, donating blood, resulting in the collection of around 48 units of blood. As the camp was associated with JIPMER Blood Bank and PUVI Foundation, the whole donation process was executed by experienced medical officers with personal guidance for donors through each step. Dr. Precia, senior resident, Dept. of Transfusion, JIPMER, has interacted with the audience about the importance of blood donation.
This blood donation camp promoted voluntary blood donation to Pondicherry University NSS. Dr. Prabakaran, program officer, NSS, Unit 6, Pondicherry University, delivered the vote of thanks which also marked the end of the event
