World Environment Day – Raise your voice not the sea level

5 June is observed as World Environment Day (WED) all over the world. WED was created by United Nations in the year 1972 to encourage “worldwide awareness and action for the environment”. Every year a country takes up hosting duty to celebrate the day focusing on a particular theme. 2014 is the UN designation as the International Year of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Barbados is the host country which will focus on raising awareness about “impacts of adverse climatic change”. The motto of the WED 2014 is: Raise your voice, not the sea level.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted earlier today urging people to opt for natural resources and help the government in making our country and world a cleaner and greener place to live in.

“We are blessed to be a part of a culture where living in complete harmony with the environment is central to our ethos,” Mr Modi said.

“Lets serve as trustees, where we utilise our natural resources for the present and at the same time ensure happiness of future generations,” said Mr. Modi is his tweet.

He also added, “Along with government efforts, people’s participation can make a big difference in creating a cleaner and greener planet.”
