“God is Her Beloved: The Timeless Tale of Andal and Krishna”
At Pondicherry University on 24.03.2025, the Subramania Bharati School of Tamil Language and Literature jointly organized a special endowment lecture in memory of Padmavathi Kodhandapani. The special endowment lecture is an important part of the Tamil department’s charity trust, comprising more than 14 distinguished charitable entities. The endowment was organised under the auspices of the Shirdi Trust to nurture Tamil language and literature through such philanthropic activities.
The legendary Lady Andal, also called Godha Devi, is an eminent saint and poet of Tamil literature. Her descent as a devotee is particularly significant as she is depicted as a reincarnation of Bhudevi, the earthly consort of Lord Vishnu. From an early age, she showed tremendous and intense devotion towards Lord Krishna, with her love stretching out beyond the normal expressions of worship. She made herself quite forthright, stating not only as a devotee but as the divine consort of Lord Krishna.
The endowment lecture showcased the life of the great pious girl Andal and her devotion towards Krishna. The inauguration was undertaken by Prof. B. Ravi Kumar , and Prof. S. Sudhaia Muthu was the guest of honour. In addition, the opening of the endowment lecture was witnessed by a special guest, Prof. N. Vijaya Sundari.
Dr. A. Lakshmi Duttai presided over the vote of thanks.
