CISF launches historical cycle expedition, cyclists pass through coastline of Pondicherry
In a groundbreaking initiative to mark its 56th Raising Day, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has launched a unique cycling expedition themed “Surakshit Tat, Samridh Bharat” (Safe Coasts, Prosperous India). The rally, which covers the entire 6,553-kilometer mainland coastline of India going through 9 states of the country, aims to raise awareness about coastal security and the nation’s economic prosperity.
They are divided into two teams:
East Coast Team: Flagged off from Bakkhali Beach, West Bengal, covering 2,778 km to culminate in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu.
West Coast Team: Simultaneously flagged off from Lakhpat Fort, Gujarat, covering 3,775 km to reach Kanyakumari.
The CISF cyclists wake up early in the morning and leave by 5:30 am and cover the average distance of 120 km in a day. Wherever they go, the local team of CISF guides them on their route and provides them with food and accommodation at the specific checkpoints.
On the 20th day of the cycling expedition, the teams reached the coastline of Pondicherry, covering the distance of 150km from Marina Beach, Chennai. The journey will get to its final stage on 31st March 2025, when the cyclist will reach Vivekanand Memorial, Kanyakumari.
During the event, the governor of Pondicherry was present to motivate the cyclists and addressed the people about the importance of knowing their coastline. He also made the people aware of how illegal activities can happen through the coastline and how the local communities can help the government to stop them.
The event ended with some mesmerising cultural dances of school kids; their beautiful attires and talent entertained the audience and the cyclists.
