Pondicherry’s annual food festival

From 16 to 20 July Pondicherry was the host to its 5 day annual food festival, organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Pondicherry. The Old Port at the end of Beach Road lit up every evening during the food festival with the light of the pandals and the whiff of fresh food.

The food festival was inaugurated by the Tourism Minister P. Rajavelu. W.V.R.Murthy, Tourism Secretary, K. K. Singh, Tourism director and Vaiyapuri Manikandan, chairman, Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation and N Rangaswamy, the Chief Minister of Pondicherry were also present.

About 33 stalls were put up consisting of food from the best food places in Pondicherry with cuisines such as Indian, Chinese, Japanese, French and Vietnamese. An exclusive big stall was reserved for cookery competitions.

While most of the food was cooked at the food festival itself, a lot of the stalls had open kitchens, where you could actually witness the chefs cooking for you and serve you hot right on the spot.

There were also cultural events on all evenings including Indian classical dance performances by noted dancers such as Sangeeta Dash and live music. 

The Food Festival which lasted for five days witnessed thousands of people as footfall.
