Asian Women’s Film Festival
Department of Mass Communication, School of Media and Communication, Pondicherry University in collaboration with International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) organised the First Asian Women’s film festival – Breaking Boundaries: Shared Spaces, celebrating 100 years of International Women’s Day at SOM Auditorium, School of Management on March 15 and 16, 2011.
The inauguration of the film festival was presided over by Prof. J A K Tareen, Vice-Chancellor, Pondicherry University. Dr. Anita Ratnam, internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer, trans-culture collaborator, arts presenter, scholar, writer and cultural activist presented the inaugural address. Ms. Jai Chandiram, President IAWRT – India, delivered the keynote address.
Noted film makers Reena Mohan, Nupur Basu, Aditi Chitre and Leena Manimekalai were invited for a seminar on ‘Gender Diversity and Equity: Challenges in main streaming gender in media’. The film makers also interacted with the audience after the screening. Award winning one minute films on disability, that were screened at the India International Disability Film Festival organised by Ability Foundation were also screened at this festival.
The festival was organised by Radhika Khanna, Assistant Professor, Department or Mass Communication.
