Annual Jane’s Walk Festival 2014

This year from 3 – 4 May, Urban Design Collective will be celebrating Jane’s Walk Festival. Urban Design Collective will be hosting a series of commemorative walks in Pondicherry and other cities across the country to celebrate the life and work of Jane Jacobs. Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was an urbanist and activist whose writings championed a fresh, community-based approach to city building. The Jane’s Walk festival in Pondicherry, led by city organizer Devangi Ramakrishnan will be hosting multiple walks across the city of Pondicherry on 3 and 4 May. The walks planned for Jane’s Walk Festival in Pondicherry are:

  •  Meet your Neighbours! The walk will begin at 4.30 pm on 3 May from La Closerie. The walk will be led by Ashok Panda.
  •  Art in the City! The walk will begin at 7.30 am on 4 May from SITA Cultural Center. The walk will be led by Fleur Soumer, Fiona Guerra and Idriss Madir.
  • Framing the Muslim Quarters through the eyes of Jane Jacobs. The walk will begin at 7.30 am and again on 4.30 pm on 4 May from Porte de Goudelour. The walk will be led by Devangi Ramakrishnan and Rohit George.
