A workshop in Animation film making
Animation is accessible, thrilling and can be as easy or difficult as you want it to be.
This is the mantra of the animation workshop being conducted at the Mass Communication Department, Pondicherry University.Day two of the workshop and the students have already created colourful and humorous claymation videos. These are students who have never experimented with animation before.
Feeding on a healthy dose of animation films that are simple in approach and subversive in spirit has already freed their minds and enabled them to grasp the most basic flip book concept-that is animation. While most animation schools and courses will take great pains to convince a student that animation cannot be done without well equipped studios and crews- my personal experience as a self-teaching animation artist has convinced me otherwise.
Discovering that the medium can go as far as your imagination can take it has been a liberating and thrilling process that I hope to get the students hooked on to.Creating characters and actions out of the most basic tools – through improvisation and re-invention, has proved to the students that they can tell a story effectively and charmingly, through a medium they encountered just yesterday.
