Blood Donation Camp at Pondicherry University
7 April is observed as the World Health Day all over the world. The Department of Electronic Media and Mass Communication, Pondicherry University, in collaboration with JIPMER, organized a blood donation camp on World Health Day, 2014.
Doctors and students from JIPMER screened students for their weight and hemoglobin count to know if they were eligible for blood donation. The blood donation camp was followed by a lecture session by the doctors on this year’s World Health Day’s theme: ‘Small Bite: Big Threat.’ They stressed on dangerous vector borne diseases could be and also gave information on how it could be avoided.
The second session was on the alarming rise in chicken pox cases in Pondicherry University. The doctors gave probable ways of how the disease spreads, prescriptions and proscriptions to not contract it and also on the vaccines that are available.
The camp saw more than 50 eager donators from various departments and the Professors donated blood too. The doctors also had another session to educate people about the myths associated with blood donation. They said that the needles used should be sterilized to prevent acquiring other diseases and that blood donation is healthy as it helps the cells rejuvenate.
