Inaugural Edition of BLINK 2024 Celebrates World Photography Day with Nationwide Participation
The Department of Electronic Media and Mass Communication at Pondicherry University inaugurated its first edition of the BLINK Photography Exhibition to celebrate the World Photography Day. The event, held on Monday, August 19, was graced by Professor Clement Sagayaradja Lourdes, Director of Culture and Cultural Relations, and Professor R Sevukan, Dean of School of Media and Communication, who officially inaugurated the exhibition, themed “Eyes that See.”
The exhibition brought together participants from around the country, along with students from the Department of Mass Communication, in an impressive showcase of photographic artistry. The exhibition aimed to explore diverse perspectives, capturing the essence of human and social stories through the lens of the camera.
The day began with an intimate opening ritual, where Professor Clement and Dean Professor R Sevukan lit incense sticks and scattered flower petals in a water vase, symbolizing positivity and creativity. Faculty and students joined in this moment, adding to the exhibition’s welcoming and reflective atmosphere.
Following the formalities, Professor Clement and Professor Sevukan addressed the gathering, sharing inspiring words about the art and impact of photography. In their respective speeches, they lauded the students’ efforts in organizing the exhibition, highlighting the hard work, passion, and dedication that brought BLINK 2024 to life. They also motivated the students to continue their photographic journeys, fostering creativity and critical storytelling.
After the inaugural speeches, the guests, faculty members, and students explored the exhibition hall, engaged in conversations with the students and the faculty incharge for the event, Dr. Radhika Khanna, to understand the stories behind each piece. The showcased works encompassed a broad range of subjects—from social and cultural themes to the beauty of everyday life—illustrating the power of photography to capture unseen perspectives.
The event succeeded in uniting photography enthusiasts on a global platform, celebrating visual storytelling as a means to connect, inspire, and inform. BLINK 2024 set a promising precedent, with the Department of Electronic Media and Mass Communication aiming to make this exhibition an annual celebration on World Photography Day.
