{"id":2640,"date":"2014-06-06T16:23:31","date_gmt":"2014-06-06T10:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/puinquirer.edu.in\/?p=2640"},"modified":"2014-06-06T16:25:56","modified_gmt":"2014-06-06T10:55:56","slug":"national-symposium-ethics-photography","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/puinquirer.edu.in\/?p=2640","title":{"rendered":"National symposium on &#8216;Ethics in Photography&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif\">Goa Centre for Alternate Photography (Goa-CAP), Aksgar and Goethe-Institut \/ Max Mueller Bhavan are organising the first national symposium on &#8216;Ethics in Photography&#8217; on 30 August 2014 in New Delhi. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus is the symposium\u2019s Academic Partner. Prof. Meenakshi Raman, Ph.D., Head, Department of Humanities and Management, BITS Pilani, Goa will be the Symposium chairperson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif\">The symposium aims to reflect on the role and relevance of values and ethics in photography, as they are important not only to the practitioners, but also to institutions like media, colleges, museums and business. It aims to bring together thinkers, scholars and practitioners of photography as well as the media, museums, social and business institutions to examine the state of ethics and values in photography, promote a rich and open environment in which these critical and urgent issues can be discussed and to formulate a voluntary code of ethical conduct for creators and consumers of photographs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif\">The symposium will attempt to involve all organizations (academic, social and artistic) into the decision making process, so that the code of conduct is democratically evolved. It will also attempt to unite the entire photography fraternity across India to be a part of this historical self-regulating exercise. The symposium is supported by a grand alliance of 15 photography organizations across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif\">\u201cWe are excited to support this unique initiative that we hope will have a lasting impact on photography in India and provide everyone who deals with photography in the country with a voluntary but robust ethical framework,\u201d said Robin Mallick, Regional Programme Director South Asia, Goethe-Institut \/ Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif\">Scholars and practitioners in India are invited to send in their papers for the symposium on relevant research work on all aspects of ethics in relation to photography.
