{"id":2290,"date":"2014-05-24T14:33:02","date_gmt":"2014-05-24T09:03:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/puinquirer.edu.in\/?p=2290"},"modified":"2014-05-24T14:33:02","modified_gmt":"2014-05-24T09:03:02","slug":"india-support-stable-maritime-environment-asia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/puinquirer.edu.in\/?p=2290","title":{"rendered":"India to support a stable maritime environment in Asia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">As China pushes to lay claim over the South China Sea, India went out on a limb and said that it supports a stable maritime environment in Asia, which includes the right of maritime passage and unhindered commerce that can be possible by the international law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Dinkar Khullar, secretary (West) in the external affairs ministry, said India &#8220;recognises the priority needed to consider new approaches within the overall framework of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to promote international cooperation for the sustainable use of living resources of the high seas as well as mutually beneficial sharing of seabed resources located in areas beyond national jurisdiction&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Khullar addressed the fourth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and congratulated China for assuming the chair of CICA and also welcomed Bangladesh and Qatar as the grouping&#8217;s newest members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">The\u00a0Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia\u00a0(CICA) is an\u00a0inter-governmental forum\u00a0for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia.
