Auroleo and Nadapem perform at Kalakendra<\/p><\/div>\n

The evening of 8 February saw an amazing confluence between the worlds of visuals and music at Kala Kendra in Auroville. Musicians Aurelio and Nadaprem in collaboration with artists Drago Druskovic and Claudia Volders put together an exhibition which combined pictures and sound.<\/span><\/p>\n

The abstract paintings of Drago have been on exhibition since 1 February, 2014. The performance of Aurelio and Nadaprem inside the same art gallery commenced on this Saturday at 5 pm and went on for a little more than half an hour. A plethora of several instruments, unconventional and conventional were used in the performance. The performers had installed some temporary props inside the art gallery to enhance their output and achieve the desired effect.<\/span><\/p>\n

The art gallery is divided in two floors: two circular rooms, one directly above the other, with a circular opening that connects the two rooms. Above the opening, there is another opening that leads to the outer open. Reflecting diaphragms had been attached to both these openings to create an amplifying and an echoic effect.<\/span><\/p>\n

The performance began from the first floor with a slow rendition of little sounds using unconventional instruments like hollow tubes being beaten on a steel grill. Slowly, Aurelio took over the performance with his slow chimes and his booming echoic voice that pervaded all the way down to the performance. Nadaprem soon joined in and throughout the performance he played no less than five\u00a0separate instruments, Aurelio even more.<\/span><\/p>\n

The art in circular rooms one above the other, the layers of sounds intermingling to produce a breathtaking convergence, the presence of art and sound next to each other all pointed to one thing: Pictures beyond Pictures, Sound within Sound.<\/span><\/p>\n

The performance concluded close to 5. 45 pm. The spellbinding effect that it had created stayed long after the musicians had stopped performing.<\/span><\/p>\n
