Christmas in Pondicherry

Cakes, cookies, carols and celebrations. As the end of the year approaches, the yuletide is in the air. Christmas! Fairy lights adorn the store fronts, beautifully lit up stars sway to the evening breeze from the balconies of different houses and the smell of cakes and cookies waft through the kitchens as we walk down the streets. Christmas trees of various shapes and sizes, decked up with lights and crystals and bells can be seen in many houses. Children of all ages wait with anticipation and excitement for their gifts from Santa Claus. Some people dress up as Santa Claus and hand out gifts either for entertainment or as part of a social service. Hundreds of people gather in churches to attend the mass and offer their prayers.  The Inquirer team went around Pondicherry on Christmas eve and Christmas. The video takes you to different churches and Pondicherry’s Rock Beach where we interviewed people on what Christmas means to them and how they celebrate it. Here is what they had to say.
