Annual Jane’s Walk Festival 2014
This year from 3 – 4 May, Urban Design Collective will be celebrating Jane’s Walk Festival. Urban Design Collective will be hosting a series of commemorative walks in Pondicherry and other cities across the country to celebrate the life and work of Jane Jacobs. Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was an urbanist and activist whose writings championed a fresh, community-based approach to city building. The Jane’s Walk festival in Pondicherry, led by city organizer Devangi Ramakrishnan will be hosting multiple walks across the city of Pondicherry on 3 and 4 May. The walks planned for Jane’s Walk Festival in Pondicherry are:
- Meet your Neighbours! The walk will begin at 4.30 pm on 3 May from La Closerie. The walk will be led by Ashok Panda.
- Art in the City! The walk will begin at 7.30 am on 4 May from SITA Cultural Center. The walk will be led by Fleur Soumer, Fiona Guerra and Idriss Madir.
- Framing the Muslim Quarters through the eyes of Jane Jacobs. The walk will begin at 7.30 am and again on 4.30 pm on 4 May from Porte de Goudelour. The walk will be led by Devangi Ramakrishnan and Rohit George.
The idea behind Jane’s Walk is to cherish and celebrate the unique features of every city.
