Celebrating art

Celebrating the centenary of Mother’s (Mirra Alfassa) arrival in Puducherry and the first anniversary of TASMAI, an exhibition on the theme Mother was organized by TASMAI from February 24 – March 29, 2014. It exhibited works of twelve different artists expressing their views of motherhood.

Prithi Gosh, Dhanvanti Nagada, Danasegar S, Nele Martens, Suresh Nair, Kirti Chandak are few of the artists whose works were exhibitied. The mediums used were water colour on handmade paper, oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas, glass and clay, digital print on mirror, Henk Van Putten had made Mother Chair out of stainless steel.

Another exhibition on the theme “A RE-LOOK at the Girl Child” was organized as part of the annual Shilpataru Art Exhibition at Art Beat – The Fine Art Studio. Works of ten different artists were exhibited. Saroja T, Candappanne L, Vishwajyoti Mohrhoff, Sridaaladevi. G, Saro Krishna were few of the artists and the mediums used were acrylic on canvas, mixed media on canvas, oil on canvas, ink in canvas etc.

The works were very imaginative and bold like women crossing borders, a girl longing for education and a women who appears more like an angel and is painting the world. These portraits were focused on girl children and her life. A discussion on the theme “The Girl Child – Attitutes and Expressions” and two French films – “Kali, Des Livres et Des Femmes” and “Amrita SHER-GIL – UneRhapsodieIndienne” were screened as part of the exhibition.
